KIPP Delta Student Earns Boarding School Acceptance

KIPP Delta College Preparatory School is proud to announce that Rachael Murdock, from the Class of 2018, has earned acceptance to Indian Springs School, in Pelham, Alabama. The mission of Indian Springs School is to develop in students a love of learning, a sense of integrity and moral courage, and an ethic of participatory citizenship. Indian Springs’ mission aligns closely with KIPP Delta’s, and one KIPP Delta alumni is already enrolled there.  Kennedy Simes, a ninth grader in the Class of 2017, is enjoying the supportive community and challenging coursework at Indian Springs School. KIPP Delta Public Schools explore boarding schools as an option for students who have an interest in pushing themselves personally and academically, and who are brave enough to spend their high schools years away from home. Rachael decided that she wanted to apply to boarding school after attending the Deerfield STEP program last summer, where she had the opportunity to live and study on a boarding school campus in Massachusetts for three weeks. If Rachael attends, she plans to continue to participate in band and join one of Indian Springs’ human rights student organizations.

In addition to earning acceptance, Rachael was also awarded the prestigious Malone Scholarship. In 2004, the Malone Family Foundation granted a generous $2 million endowment to establish the Malone Scholarship Program at Indian Springs, which provides scholarships to exceptionally gifted students with the motivation to excel in this highly academic environment. Eligibility is based upon: an admission application including SSAT test scores; teacher recommendations, transcripts and an on campus interview; demonstrated academic achievement, including being in the top 5 percent of their class; citizenship and leadership potential; and financial need based on the School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS).
